Hello guys

i am happy to be here and happy that this is my first post , i am auday , iraqi , young and learning php

i think i am trying to make the jump , from the bottom where i dont have any php programing skills , to the top where i should have an open source cms

everyone can make the jump ,( i am not sure in english do u say everybody or everyone in here )

everyone can make the jump, nothing to worry about , this jump is not going to hurt , i believe that i am excited and ambitious , able to learn , and full of ideas

i have what it takes to be a programmer , if a programmer should be a problem solving person , creative , good in math , aware of what he writes and have sharp eyes to see

i only miss one thing , the mood to write long code and accept that this long code and these many lines will generate something small and sometimes can not be seen

i am happy to have the opportunity to ask you a question or 2 , but today i have one question and i will be happy to get answers

if i want to store a variable $auday in a file called auday.php , and $auday can be a text , which may have double or and single quotes ,


$auday = ' auday's and "Hello World".';

// file name here is auday.php

include ("auday.php");
echo $auday;

$newauday = addslashes ("$auday");
echo stripslashes("$newauday");
// file is anything2.php and errors too

so guys , how can i do that ... !! i tried many ways , i couldnt do a solution

if this is a website name and is in config.php then how to use it ... !! or make the form that saves the config.php add slashes then strip

One solution is to "escape" the quotes in the string using the "\" character. For example:

$test = "NogDog said, \"This is a sentence. That's all, folks.\"";
// ...or...
$test = 'NogDog said, "This is a sentence. That\'s all, folks."';

Sometimes it is easier to use the "heredoc" method of quoting:

$test = <<<END
NogDog said, "This is a sentence. That's all, folks."
END;
// note that the above line must have no spaces/tabs before the END;
//

i checked the manual and it seems really good .. even arrays work in heredoc

and it seems that php 4 and above al lhave heredoc ... or am i wrong

all servers with php 4 and above have heredoc or it can be disabled

i want to use the methods that many servers support

It is a language feature and thus should always be available.
