New and Learning...

Well I am sure this might get asked alot but wanted to get some new opinions on how to get started with PHP.

I am familiar with PHP as for the past few years I have used php based forums, forums, sites etc... and I can edit it easily and have some idea of how it's working but would like to take it a step further and be able to build what I need from nothing in PHP.

So my question is what is the best way to learn PHP and what resources to use? I thought about going up to barnes and noble to pick up a book but there are so many you never know what kind of help each book would give. So any ideas would be great there as well.

Again sorry if this isn't in the right place or if you guys hate this questions.

I picked up a book way back, I think it may have been a Sam's Teach Yourself book, read through it to get a general idea of the language, then taught myself the rest from reading through the manual at php.net.

I started learning php in 2003. I bought Sklar + Trachtenberg's PHP Cookbook, and between that and php.net and trial + error, I taught myself to do a few things. There is always more to learn.
