Warning: Unexpected character in input: '\'

I'm working on a forum system in php, however I am being hampered by unexplained errors, such as this:

Warning: Unexpected character in input: '\' (ASCII=92) state=1 in D:\Server\apache\htdocs\cboard\functions\loggedin.php on line 2

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in D:\Server\apache\htdocs\cboard\functions\loggedin.php on line 2

I really don't see what could be causing this. I even blanked the loggedin.php file to just have <?php ?> and still, the error. I'm very confused.

Have you read the error? or are you tring to guess the problem?

Also are you sure your browser is refreshing correctly.

I find it hard to believe you really blanked the file out and your still getting those errors.

Show us your code for loggedin.php or we are just going to be guessing too.

It might also help if you rename the file to .txt and attach it to your post, so that we can see the file exactly as it is being sent to the PHP parser.

I just checked the file in notepad, apparently it was my stupidity in using wordpad to edit the file, as wordpad had pasted in a lot of /'s and formatting info.
