Hello,

Does anyone know of any free PHP editors that will run on vista?

I have been looking around but have been unable to find one for vista. I hear eclipse will work and I went to their site but could not find a spot to download???

Any insight would be appreciated. Using wordpad is getting a little boring, I need a little a color :p a debugger would be awesome too. I was using zends free trail but that expired and I have no cash to get that at this point.

Thanks in advance,
j

http://www.aptana.com/ (based on eclipse but i prefer it for web dev - it had a vista specific download last time i checked).
    notepad 🙂

Have you tried any yet? I'd guess most of them will work fine...

You can use Dzsoft php editor, i used for free trial. I am not about the price.

        jeepin81:

I currently use a slew of editors:
        Zend Studio 5.5.0
Zend Studio Neon beta (Based on Eclipse)
        Eclipse
        NuSphere PhpED 5.2
EditPlus 2.x & 3.x (currently in private beta)
        E Texteditor (Textmate for Windows)

They all work on Vista. None have been "Vista Certified" as they don't need to be. Zend, Zend Neon, Eclipse, Eclipse PDT all use the Java language, so as long as your Java is able to run on Vista, you can run any of those 4. NuSphere's PhpED has run on Vista since it's 5.0 days. It had bugs, but they were fixed.

EditPlus and E-Texteditor are two regular text-editors with syntax highlighting. EditPlus 2 may have a minor issue during install; however, after that you're fine. EditPlus 3 works splendidly under Vista x64 Ultimate (for me). E-Texteditor works well too, bringing in support from Cygwin 😉

There are others that will work, like Notepad++ or Notepad2. But as I said before, none are "Vista Certified" because that's not possible in software. Vista will run almost any program. Heck, I can still play StarCraft and StarCraft: Broodwar on my Vista x64 machine!! So I can't see why running some slightly older software would hurt 😉

          Halo2, because of DX10

Many anti-virus programs and firewalls have been proven to work on Vista. Many programs wear the "Vista" badge. It's the x64 programs that don't exist yet 😛

Yes I am aware that I was being more of a butt than I needed to be. With some simple setting changes, Vista will behave much like XP. Also, if it wasn't for Vista's handwriting capabilities, my mom would not have bought the laptop+tablet that she did. XP just didn't cut it on the sales floor.

However, I would like to point out a thing like this, which I know is trivial but hopefully explains my perspective. I have plenty of examples of such Vista surprises, and I am sure many of you do too.

I apologize for taking the thread off topic in the first place.

Is the handwriting recognition that much better in Vista? I use it on my tablet with XP just now. It's pretty good.

It's a little more interesting than Yet Another Which-PHP-Editor Page.

After reading about why WinHlp32.exe has been removed, the funniest part is the bit about WinHelp.exe.

She's using a Wacom Bamboo tablet. The same tablet hooked up to XP generally had more mistakes to fix (for the trainer). The Vista machine seemed to recognize sloppy handwriting better.

I don't use a tablet myself, but after playing with hers I am thinking of getting one when I get my new PC.

Edit plus is a good one for vista.

Jedit has supper abrevs and good code highlighting and it has nice file browser 🙂

not sure if it works in vista but might give it a try 🙂

I can confirm that Jedit works fine in Vista.

I like Notepad++ for quick editing. Has great syntax highlighting, code folding, macros, and tons of other features... all while being lightweight and working great in Vista.

Might have to give a second look to Aptana and PHP on Eclipse.
