[RESOLVED] Checking for value entered in text field

Hi, I have a problem that I have encountered a few times and have managed to code around but now I would like to know the real solution. Basically I have been using isset to check if there is a value in a form text field, however this doesn't seem to work for me as an empty value will always be entered in my database table. What should I be using to check if a text field has a value entered by the user or not?

You can use [man]empty[/man], but it will return true for zero values. Alternatively, use isset with [man]strlen/man.

Tried the strlen in the example below, but its still not working out right.

if (isset($_POST['awards'])&& strlen($_POST['awards'] > 0)){
do this
}

Your closing parenthesis is placed incorrectly. Try:

if (isset($_POST['awards']) && strlen($_POST['awards']) > 0) {
	// do this
}

Please define "not working out right." And does it not work right for all values entered, or only for specific values? (Note that it will evaluate as true if the form field is submitted with one or more spaces, newlines, etc., in which case you might want to [man]trim/man the value, first.)
