Indent your code and post them in php forum bbcode tags. The problem is that:

$query = 'INSERT INTO foods (uid,Chicken Parmesean,Fried Plantains) VALUES
('$_SESSION["uid"]', '$chicken_parmesean', '$fried_plantains')';

is actually:

$query = 'INSERT INTO foods (uid,Chicken Parmesean,Fried Plantains) VALUES('

$_SESSION["uid"]', '$chicken_parmesean', '$fried_plantains')';

Oops, what's the $_SESSION doing there?

In other words, you need to escape the single quotes, or use a double quote delimited string.

Not often I'd attempt to correct laserlight, however... isn't there a problem with the quotes surrounding the string in your example? closing and opening without joing the joining '.'

Yes, that is exactly the problem laserlight was pointing out in the original code.
