update in wrong table

weirdness with mysql:
I've built a site for a company in three language versions - all running off one db

there's a table for each language - "items" for the english, "items_fr" for french, "items_de" for german

all seemed fine - English site is only live for a few weeks, other two are not live yet - but now updates from french admin appear in the german table - it works fine on my local pc, I've checked and double checked the code

I echo the sql statement and it is totally correct

so is it ever possible for the mySql install on the host to get corrupted?
I have my suspicions about the security of the host (Hostcentric in the US) but the client has been with them for 7 years

my next step is rename the tables completely and re-test but any comments would be much appreciated!

How do you know what language the admin is using? This sounds like a browser setting issue.

surely they could be using Chinese but the entries should still go into the correct mysql table

each language has its own, pw protected, admin directory, with its own set of php, where the table name is specified in hard code (i.e. its not derived from any conditionals, nor is the table name held in any variable apart from the sql statement)

Okay, it looked like you might have been using the language to set the table name. Bad guess on my part.

So what you're saying is the French admin uses a different URL than the German admin, but it appears that the French admin is running the German's code? I don't see how that could be a MySQL problem, maybe a virtual host configuration error? Does the URL look right in the browser?

I figured you'd made a quick guess that was off target!

urls etc seem ok

that's why I wondered if the install could be messed up - or if there was anything bad about my naming - - like mysql identifies the text "items_"
then ignores the fr or de suffix..
hmm, I should double check I dont have a rogue word space in there somewhere...!
