[RESOLVED] print to a variable

Hi all

Is there a way that i can print to a variable ?

this doesnt work obviously but does give an example of what im trying to do

$string= echo ('Hello');
echo $string;
 ?>

Thanks for that but not quite what i mean.

I need to get the result of either an echo or a print into a variable, if thats possible.

in otherwords my script outputs to a webpage, however i want to take that output put it into a variable, perform a couple of tasks on it, Then send it back to the webpage.

You should set what you want to output in a variable first, like:

$output = "I'm outputting this";
echo $output;

The echoed data is the same as what is stored in $output.

yes i know i should but on this occasion i cant i need to perform either a print or an echo 1st then i need the result back into a var.

No values are returned from echo and 1 is always returned from print(). What are you trying to do exactly? I don't see why you need to do this.

I think you mean output buffering:

ob_start();
echo 'This is a string!!';
echo '12345';

$contents = ob_get_contents();
ob_end_clean();

echo $contents;
