PHP redirect loses content encoding type

How can I redirect using PHP (5) (IIS5 sp2) without it losing the gzip compression?
I've tries using Header('Content-Encoding: gzip'); before the redirect but is always resets it to plain text! It is supposedly set at the server level in the metabase, and works for all requests except for where a redirect is involved. Is there an alternative to header('location: login.php') ? Am I missing something obvious?

Just a wild guess: try using a full URL for the location, e.g.:

header("Location: http://www.example.com/login.php");

The redirect itself works, no problem. It is the gzip encoding which is lost unfortunately. Will try the full path including server address though, if that works it'll be sweet. I'll let you know if it works in a few hours (I'm in the UK so it's quite late now). I've also tried specifying gzip in the php method ob_start() in the top of all pages (despite the server setting, incase something overrides it) to no avail.
