address book / event calendar tuts

I'm looking for two tutorials , but can't find any.
1. an simple address book
2. an event calendar (not just a calendar, but also the possibility to add appointments etc.)

Anyone who knows such tutorials. Or perhaps any books which have such projects mentioned?

Do you know PHP, mysql?
or do the easy thing and go to calendar.google.com
