PHP MYSQL Pagination Limiting

I am trying to figure out a way to take an existing pagination function and add a way to limit the output, kinda like google.

I have over 100K records that my search page is pulling, how can I limit the output of pages from 123456789 to 123...789

anyone know how to make paging from

from:

< 1 2 3 ... 789 ... 13 14 15 ... 18 19 20 >

That is surprisingly harder than it seems, at least it was for me when I attempted it about 8 months ago. Eventually I gave up and simply did increments
so the output was
1,2,3,4,5 >>> Next
<<< Prev 6,7,8,9,10 Next>>>>
<<< Prev 11,12,13,14,15 Next >>>

Because my original plan of having it display x percent of the results with x percent fade off would basically result in me only getting half of it to work at once.

Not to discourage you, but in case you bang your head with this for a while, consider the alternative

thinking about it, and I believe thats a better of doing it.

just not sure how to do this, Right now I am limiting the paging to 48 so all you can see it 1 - 48 and nothing more, Id like to make it so when you click on 48 then it re-lists the paging output starting with 48...etc.

Could you post the code to do this, I am interested as this is what I would like to do for my results?
