Compress video

Hey guys. I know there are ways to compress images so they take up less space on the server as people upload them, but is there any way to compress video?

I would like for my customers to be able to upload video, but I can't afford the huge amount of space it would take for non compressed video. Is there anyway to do this PHP? If not, what would be a good practicle solution that would work on a Lynux server?

Well first off it's "Linux". Secondly you'd need to write a function that would more than likely convert to flash video. I've seen tutorials on how to do this but keep in mind it's not a novice task. You need to have the libraries available to you to manipulate the video stream.
