I just discovered that fulltext search doesn't return any results if search terms contain non-english characters. Does it mean that fulltext works only with texts in English?

Bogu, thank you for your reply.

As I understand, the problem was because my script uses utf-8, but the column with fulltext index was with latin1 collation.

I have a large table with more than 300 000 records. Is it safe to change collation from latin1 to utf8. May such changes cause any problems?

I done it a few times and had no problem, but you should backup your DB before trying you never know ...
