did anyone try mail hosting by google?

What is your experience and suggestions?

Does google send you a lot of ads when you let them hosting your domain?

How is their spam control (You don't want it too strict or too loose)?

I didn't like trying to set up google mail for my entire domain, but what I did instead was made a catch-all gmail account, then tied all my other email accounts into it with pop3. Works great. Spam filter has blocked all spam but one paypal one, so far, in about 2 months of using it. hasn't blocked anything that it shouldn't have, that I've noticed.

you are using their free account not the 50 bucks commercial account, right?

How many google commercials you got from the free account. I think got a few of them is worth the value if i can have a good spam control to fence off the other spams.

some hosting companies uses some free or cheap spam control, it may not work very well. i think google might be the one who has the money and resource to do this spam control free. And these free services google offers can get the benefits for google more than for other companies, it should be a win-win.

you mean gmail?
i use gmail as my primary and it has blocked 99.99% of junkmail for me, and it works beatufilly i'd recommend it.

damn google is going to put us all out of business

I use the free account blackhorse, and I didn't get any "commercials". There are targetted ads on the page, of course, but it's not like they send ads in my emails or anything. By "made a catch-all account" I mean I created a new account at gmail.com that was a general account for all my stuff - then in the settings page, you can tell GMail to go out to other servers and retrieve the email for different accounts. Free GMail gives you up to five, i believe. I told it to go get the email from my work account and another personal account. Now I just log into the single gmail account, and it checks the emails for my work account as well as another personal account I have, instead of having to check all three individually.

I use the free google apps for your domain. Never had any issues. I have a catchall for my domain and then use filters and labels to sort it. Never had any issues. Yes there are google ads on it, but I just ignore them. In fact it took me actually going in and looking for the ads to actually take note of them.
