Help needed for a news.php page

I'm VERY new at PHP and have managed to fumble my way through a few queries and have learned A LOT.

Now I'm stuck creating a news page where I'd like each news article to open in a new page similar to how this http://www.jadetree.com/news/article/43/802 is working.

Ideally I'd like to have http://www.mysite.com/news/article/bandname/#

where # is the number from my newsid field in my database.

I just can't seem to get my head around it, any suggestions or comments would be MUCH appreciated!

this requires a special configuration on your web server. Which is often not available on shared servers, because it may make it harder to install some apps. So, unless you're willing to invest on a dedicated server, you're stuck with either alternative:

http://www.example.com/?news/article/bandname/#
in which you parse the $_SERVER['QUERY_STRING'] on your index.php

or
http://www.example.com/news.php/article/bandname/#
in which you parse the $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'] on your news.php

I'll definitely look into these options you suggested.

Do you have any suggestions in general for this idea in case I was approaching it the wrong way?
