file attachment ?

hai,
i am having a forum that runs on simple php and mysql ...
i am trying to add attachment option in the the reply.php/newpost.php but not getting the attachment script work for it ...
the files are getting uploaded but are not being displayed with the post in the forum ....
does any one know how to get the things done in right manner for the attachment script,, i have also made tables in mysql regarding the file info but its a getting problems,, i know its a quite complicated to make it run suuccessfully but any sort of help is welcomed.........................

Once you've uploaded the file, you need to store it in a designated place on the server. You then insert that place's url including filename into your mysql table. This is how you link your file to your mysql table. You cannot store the actual file in the database, only it's url.
So the proccess involved is
1) Upload the file
2) Check file if okay, if so store in folder on server
3) Make sure you are not overriding any existing files (by adding or replacing name to random number
4) Gather file url Destination/ Final Filename . ext
5) Set up SQL query to insert or update row on database that references forum posting with file
6) Excecute the SQL and check for errors
