Looking for a sign up sheet script...

Not sure if this is the right place to post about this, if not I'm sorry...

I've installed plenty of scripts on my websites in the past. I'm definitely not a php genius but I can install them. (Usually) However, I found a script at fuzzymonkey.net that I think would work great. Here's a link to their instructions. http://fuzzymonkey.net/software/signupsheet/readme.html

I installed it using my ftp client. My entire site is inside my httpdocs folder once I login to the ftp program. I have a vps server. The instructions say to install this script in the cgi-bin folder. That folder is NOT in my httpdocs folder. I put the script in there anyway and it did not work. My tech guys at my ISP said to make a folder called cgi-bin inside my httpdocs folder and that should work. He said they don't put the cgi-bin folder in the httpdocs folder for security reasons.

The craziest part is this... I did what he suggested, and I put the exact address in my browser, which is www.mysite.com/cgi-bin/signup/index.cgi and I get an error 404 that it can't even find it. But, it is there. It's in my real cgi-bin folder annnnnnnd it's in the cgi-bin folder that I made in my httpdocs folder.

Does anyone have any clue why this might be happening? It's there and I've made sure I'm putting the right address in, yet it's not finding it on the web.

1. its a pearl script not a php script
2. it has not been updated in 5 years

so i suggest you look for something newer in php

Thanks... I've been looking all over. I have not seen any. Are you familiar with any php scripts that do this? I've done google searches over the last few days... I wouldn't even mind paying if it did everything I wanted.

If I get this one to work, is there anything wrong with perl? Thanks again!

nothing wrong with perl, but his is not a perl support forum and i have forgotten all the pearl i ever knew

didn't really look at what the script does, there are so many script libraries out there i would be surprised if you cant find what you want, but you may need a custom job in the end.

Thanks again... It's just a signup sheet. I want to host an open mic event on a weekly basis and let people sign up in advance online.

By the way, I did get it running just now, but it's not as advanced as I'd like it. It is very basic and does not have any restrictions. People can put their name on the list 20 times if they wanted. Plus they can't remove their name if they want to cancel. I would have to go into the data txt file and do it for them. I think having a script with a login would be best, not this basic thing. Plus I'd like to be able to hide certain info from the public. This one is all or none.

If anyone has seen something like this, I'd love to hear about it. I'll continue my search in the libraries as you suggested. Also, if someone could program something like this, that would be awesome. Not sure how much i could afford though. I would take reasonable offers though. Thanks!

Well, over the past week or 2 I have found quite a few options for this. Unfortunately they all seem to either be too basic (no login or abilty for users to delete themselves from RSVP's they wish to cancel,) or too complex (phpscheduleit is great but it's not really for a single even like this at a certain time.

If anyone knows of something like this or can make something like this, let me know... Thanks!
