basic idea for keyword search

hai i am doing keyword search,

this is the sequance,
state,city,locality,noofbedroom

i need basic idea for this search,

if i entered state how it will work ....

i think it will search all the fields in the table and then it will fetch the records..

is this correct way?

or if i enter state and noofbedroom

i will fetch only that particular records ..

anyone give me idea about this...

it depends on your input
if you have each field seperate in each own's textbox then you can do a simply 1 to 1 comparison

select * from mytable where state = '$filteredState' and city = '$ect'

obviously you have to write your sql in case peopel dont input all fields
or using the LIKE sytanx as well.

A more powerful and advanced technique is to use full text searching, which would be idea if your user input is coming in from 1 textfield, however its also a bit less predictable

For instance if a user enters "Paterson NJ" in the textbox you can use full text to match those against every field on the table in one pass
