adding other companie's website link to our site--legal issues?

Hello Mates,
One question with law. Can I add randomly any companie's website address to our company's website? Say, I want to add weblink to coke/microsoft/University URL's from our company site. Now do I have to notify those companies about this? Or we can add at will. Any legal issues?
Any response would be a great help.

I am fairly sure that linking is in no way illegal. That is like mentioning a company in a newspaper article or something like that. Add at will, and if the companies ask you remove the links then do. As long as you are just linking and not stealing their copyrighted content it is fine.

Thank you. We may link one or two of their downloadable documents, but as we will mention their name on top and also proivde their web address link it shouldn't be a problem I guess. Thank you again.
