[RESOLVED] XML fraction value help

I'm trying to read in an attribute value from a XML file. The value of the attribute is 1/2. I use get_attribute('ATTRNAME') to get the value, but when I display the value it looks like this "Â½". I would want to display either 1/2 or .5, doing away witht he "Â". Any idea of how to get around this? I can post the code if it would help. Thanks for the help.

Do you know what character set the XML file is using? (It should be in the <?xml?> tag.) If it's some version of "unicode", you may have to use the PHP [man]mbstring[/man] functions in order to cope with it. In any case, since it appears it is sending a special fraction character rather than 3 separate "1", "/", and "2" characters, you will need to some sort of string replacement on it ([man]str_replace/man, [man]preg_replace/man, or [man]mb_ereg_replace/man).

Thanks for the help. This is the character set of the xml file "<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1" ?>". I'll look into the string replacement methods you suggested. Thanks again.

OK, at least that's a single-byte character set, so you shouldn't need to worry about the MBString stuff. 🙂
