[RESOLVED] replacements with include();

i use include(); to display ephemerids from the site of a friend

i'm just wondering if this is possible to use preg_replace or str_replace (or anything else) to remove some HTML codes so i can take out useless images on top of the page

i tryed something like

echo $replace;

but it doesn't work 🙁

Why not just structure your code to avoid printing the "useless images" in the first place?

hmm... okay, perhaps I misread your question. You seem to want to do screen scraping, so you should not use include, but say, [man]file_get_contents/man. Read the content first, and then do the replacement, and only then do you display the replaced version.

Note that you should have the permission of the content owner to do this, otherwise you may be infringing copyright.

Oh, okay, i think i get it

Well there is no problem with copyright infrigment, the owner is a friend of mine and i have his written autorisation to do that, as long as i don't copy/paste his content on my site, since it is continually updated! (so thats why i thought about using includes)

could you give me an example how to do just one replacement with file_get_contents() ? I'm really a newbie... i tryed just changing include( to file_get_contents( but it doesn't make the replacement (i tryed taking out or a single word from the text) :/

Read the PHP Manual on file_get+_contents(). Basically, it returns a string, which would be the clientside source code of the webpage. Store that in a variable, do the replacement on that variable, then print out the contents of that variable.

Well thats what i tryed :

$show = str_replace($delete, $nothing, $replace);
$replace = file_get_contents("http://ytak.club.fr/mars01.html");
echo $show;
?>

You are now replacing before the sites content have been grapped to variable. Switch those and it will work:

$nothing = "";
$delete = "<BR>";
$replace = file_get_contents("http://ytak.club.fr/mars01.html");
$show = str_replace($delete, $nothing, $replace);
echo $show;
?>
