Looking for: Log file creation script or code snippet

Hello.

I'm looking for a routine that has the following characteristics:

1) create the file if it doesn't exist or is not writeable (append date to filename);
2) append until the file reaches a maximum filesize on that date or that date is no longer today's;
3) then if either not today's date or the filesize reached the defined maximum, create a new file and begin the process again.
4) add other conditions as necessary to prevent hiccups that could cause file corruption, security holes, etc.

Got suggestions?

The PEAR Log package is pretty comprehensive. Not sure if it covers all your requirements, but since it's object-oriented it should be relatively simple to extend it to add specific needs.

Thanks NogDog. It looks comprehensive. I'll have to study it. I wished they had a quick basic setup to shorten the learning curve.

I already have a routine I'm using (not 'live' yet) but it doesn't have the filesize or date condition regarding naming the file when automatically created (or archived). It is just the standard, 'if the file exists and is writeable, append the data.' I'm trying not to have to go to the file routinely to make sure it doesn't exceed the file size and manually create a new file while manually archiving the previous one. I haven't had a need for a logging routine previously. I'm just getting started with this one.

If you know of something less intense, please let me know.
