connect to postgres from local machine to remote machine

Hello Friends,

I have a problem with postgres. Iam trying to connect to the postgres database which is on the other machine whose IP is 60.104.. by using pgAdmin from my local. I get the below mentioned error.

The server doesn't accept connections: the connection library reports

could not connect to server: No route to host Is the server running on host "66.104.." and accepting TCP/IP connections on port 5432?

I have been searching for a while around the net but no luck. Any help would be appreciate

According to this page,

This is the generic "I couldn't find a server to talk to" failure. It looks like the above when TCP/IP communication is attempted. A common mistake is to forget to configure the server to allow TCP/IP connections.

Maybe you should try searching some more.

HI sneakyimp,
i also uncommented listen_addresses = '*' line in postgresql.conf both at my local and remote postgres.
But still same problem

Did you restart the postgres server daemon?

Another possibility is that your new machine can't find the postgres machine at all, much less ask it for a pgsql connection.

yes restart the postgres server daemon on both local and remote machine.
Is there any changes i have to do in pg_hba.conf file on both local and server

honestly i don't know. can you ping the db server from the client server? make sure dns is working first.

Does postgres have a command-line client? Try logging in from the command line if you can rather than using from the client machine.

Also check your PHP.ini settings to see what the postgres settings look like.

You need to have the listen_address set in postgresql.conf AND an entry in pg_hba.conf that reflects the method of authentication you want your remote machine to use to access the db.

No changes on the client side are needed, both these changes are made on the pgsql server.
