Count Downloaded Image From Email

Howdy,

I am wondering how I can send out a email with a image in it and see how many times people have opened it.

Would I have to do a mod_rewrite on the image name?

If i understand you correctly you just want to check how many times the image has been viewed? If so, then maybe the following...

If the image is stored on disk somewhere via an obscure URL, you can reference the image from the Email absolutely and then use a stats package (generally free from most hosts) to see how many times it has been accessed.

Obviously you will have to compete with mail clients blocking images from being downloaded.

I may have totally misunderstood your requirements though.

Howdy, No you are correct.

But I am wondering if there is a way to do it without having to check a stats site.

I am trying to build a email newsletter system and I would love to let my clients know how many people have opened their email.

The following website does exactly what I want it to do but I want to do this on my server and not theirs.
