exporting with phpmyadmin question

For those of you who are pma wizards, I have a question about exporting with pma.

I know how to export just fine, but at times I need to query several thousands of records at a time, then export them to excel. My browser gets kinda choked up when it is returning the query results in a list.

Does anyone know a better way to export large numbers of rows, without needing to wait for the list to show up on the browser? Kinda sucks when I'm waiting for thousands of records to display.

You might consider using mysqldump. You have to call it from the command line.

Another possibility is to do an insert-select statement into some empty table and then just export the table. I think that eliminates the need to view all the records in a browser.
