Webserver php recieving POSTs

I'm just learning about HTTP POST. I'm running Perl on windows XP and I'm POSTing to my ISP websever website. For a while I thought POST just wrote the contents to a file on the host but now I understand that HTTP POST expects a program to take the data. So I'm trying understand and write a program in PHP that is on the receiving end of a POST.

Examples, good location for info, advice welcomed.
