Create a greyed out field and then activate it when a selection made

I am still learning PHP and will be for some time I think.

I need your help with Greyed out fields.

What I am trying to do is have an 'Other' input field greyed out on the page or hidden, until the option of 'Other' is selected in a dropdown menu and then the 'Other' input field would become active or unhidden.

Can this been done in PHP or using some other option. The dropwdown menu is created from MYSQL database.

I would appreciate any help.

You would use client side scripting, not PHP. Moved to ClientSide Technologies forum.

Create an element and use the DISABLED attribute:

Foo: <input type="text" name="foo" disabled="true" />

Then, you'd do something like this for your select box:

<select name="bar" onchange="this.form.foo.disabled = (this.value != 'other')">
...
<option value="other">Other</option>
</select>
