Sync User system with vb forum or not?

I'm going to start making a simple User System but I want to decide if I should sync it with my current Vbulletin users?! There are many pro's and con's so I want to hear what you guys have done or have to say about what I should do?

Making a User System w/o sync would mean easier to make, easy maintenance, and no errors. However this leaves to hassle for users and for me when I want to know that 'bob' is really 'bob' on the forum....

Making a User System with sync would mean: I have to make a copy of the current users on my forum and put it onto my database, and figure out how to make a vbulletin account when making a normal user account.

Can you use your forum's authentication? That way you've got a registration system ready, you don't have to synchronize users from one database to another. I've done similar thing with phpBB (description can be found with google). Maybe similar thing can be done for Vbulletin.

I never thought about using the forum's authentication. However this brings up a series of question and the main question is: Where do I begin? As in:

How do I get a login script from the main to use the forum's logins authentication.
How can I create a 'sign up' script where the same information will be created on the forum.

This is a lot to ask, and I can probably find all this on google, but it's a tedious procedure I really want to made simple. Hope this forum can help 🙂
