I'm out of my depth, but it was OK

We have a site hosted by Fasthost, for months it has been working OK. In November they had security issues and asked us to change our database password.

It all worked after this event.

They have now upgraded their severs from PHP4 to PHP5 and everything is up in the air.

I've spoken to their help line for nearly an hour by the guy confessed he knew little about PHP, and neither do I, I inherited this site, as is.

Is this:

$userid=(int) $userid;

valid usage?

What is all this? at

Don't worry about the user name and password, whatever I try does not work, but it use too.

I'm stumped.

It is probably all caused by register_globals turned off by default in PHP5 and on in PHP4.

$userid=isset($_GET['userid'])?(int) $_GET['userid']:0;

This is how it can be done with register_globals turned off.
I'm guessing that without knowledge of php you won't be able to fix the problem.
There is a simple, though vulnerable solution:

ini_set('register_globals',1);

This at the beginning of your script would turn register_globals on - which is not recomended and will stop working in PHP6 anyway.
