ok-
let me take this from the beginning....
i am helping out my friends with their site hosted with siteground. They originally wanted to use ZenCart then Joomla and, now, the site is being custom built with Google cart for the store.
So here's where I am at, btw, I am Lisa, hi, how are you? Anyway, I read the ZenCart manual, the Joomla 1.5 manual and MySQL. So we had the nice people in the siteground tech dept. install the scripts for both Zen & Joom as test installs until we were ready to launch. But, with the decision to use a custom site, I (stupidly) volunteered to build the back-end.
So, I bought a PC (yes, hell froze over) and struggled through MySQL installs, Apache installs and PHP installs. I built a beautiful db on my pc only to now have trouble getting it recognized by siteground.
- built db in MySQL Administration
- backed up db in MySQL Administration
- Tried import db using PHP Admin on cPanel only to discover I need to add a new db via cPanel and name it the same.
- cPanel will not let me use the same name I already have.
- I would have to REBUILD the db with a new name in order to change it.
- I am unclear as to the actual STEPS to connect PHP to my db. The siteground tutorial says I need to CREATE DATABASE again using PHP code where other tutorials say different.
- (lucky seven) what would the code look like for the entire php connection? Do I need $host="localhost"
$user="user" etc and the connect code?
So you see, I only have HALF the story (I think) and I am not sure which half I have much less if the chapters are in the right order.
Please, take my hand show me the way. I can't tell you how much I would appreciate it.
On a side note for humor I think my dog just let one... pee-yew!!!

P.S. I posted this same thread in the siteground forum
