PHP Function Reference Dashboard Widget

Hi all,

Just a quick note to let everyone know that my PHP Function Reference widget for Mac OS X's Dashboard just went to version 1.0! I'm excited to share this news as this widget has been in beta for over 2 years (no joke!). More information is available here:

Slightly off topic (heck, this IS the echo lounge after all) but is Google Code becoming the new SourceForge? I'm seeing more and more people using it rather than SF.

Andrew, how come you chose it over SF?

Hi Piers,

Truth be told, I didn't even consider SourceForge. Google Code has a simple interface, easy hooks into SVN and good integration with their other tools, like Analytics. I've never hosted a project on SourceForge, but I suspect it isn't quite as easy to use and maintain (though I could be way off base!).

IMO, SF has become this huge beast thats fairly complex to use. I keep trying to do things with it, but it becomes very complicated.

When you say hooks into SVN, do you mean they provide a repository? (I only ask as I haven't looked into it too much)

Right, they provide a repository (which is helpful in itself because they can be a pain to set up), but they also provide public (read-only) access to it for people who aren't contributors to the project. If I want to give someone commit privileges, I just add them through a simple interface. Makes it easy.

That is no different from Sourceforge or Launchpad. Public read-only access to a source repository is a fundamental feature of an open source project, and integration with a member system is one reason why these communities are more than just some web hosting space.
