Updating different fields based on which button click

I wasn't sure how to explain what I need in the title.

I want the user to update different fields then goto Page A or Page B depending on which button is clicked.

I know the following would work....
<input type="submit" name="page_a" value="Update and goto Page A" />
<input type="submit" name="page_b" value="Update and goto Page B" />

   if (isset($_POST['page_a'])){   
      do my updates to fields 1,2, and 3 then goto page A; 
   } 
   if (isset($_POST['page_b'])){
     do my updates to fields 4,5, and 6 then goto page B;
   }

My question is how do I make this work if I want to use images for the submit buttons?

Input type image is deprecated, so don't use it.

Instead, use a normal button, give it an ID attribute, and remove the element from the DOM with javascript (placed directly after the button). Instead of the button, put in a styled anchor (<a>) with href javascript:this.form.submit();. Style the anchor so it has an image etc.

The submit buttons should be named, like you have now (page_a, page_b), so non-js users use normal submit buttons. If you're seeing the images, this means the client has javascript enabled, thus you can create a function to alter the form action, and provide a GET var page_a or page_b. This function should be called from the anchor.

May be tricky if you're not that familiar with js.

You could also simply use normal INPUT TYPE=SUBMIT buttons and use CSS to make them appear as images.

Should clarify that: <input type="image"> is not deprecated, but using it just to make a submit button look pretty is (that's what CSS is for).

yes but that is not fully browser compatible.

I believe it is deprecated since html 2.0. I might be wrong though. Do you have a source stating it's not deprecated?

Valid in the 4.01 docs (link). Note that "image" is listed in the list of types.

Yes you're right. I was looking at an align-attribute example with type image. the align attribute has been deprecated since 2.0.
