what is a 'printer friendly' page ??
I am not sure, because I have never added such feature to my webpages,
but often they remove a lot of disturbing IMAGES, COLORS and STYLE.
Most often they use same page,
but loading a different CSS file, that hide some unwanted elements in page.
media="screen"
media="print"
these will automatically load the correct stylesheet,
when user prints your page or just normally view your page
<head>
<link rel="icon" href="/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" />
<link rel="stylesheet" media="screen" href="my-screen-style.css">
<link rel="stylesheet" media="print" href="my-print-style.css">
</head>
There are lots of info if your search google:
Google: html css media type
