Anything Better Besides SMARTY ??

I just read some stuff on smarty, which I think is a really cool feature. But I think it could of been better. It would of been better if they could implement xml tags instead of Parenthesis so the code can be better read and implemented. My question is. Is there anything out there thats just as good as smarty or even better that uses XML tags or some better way to read the BINDED elements when the page is rendered ??
