I hope you might be able to help. I've recently setup a contact form on a website which I am hosting. As I have a PC on 24/7 I'm hosting the website myself using Apache.

I've got PHP, Mysql (and phpmyadmin) and Apache installed and running fine.

However, for the messages on the contact form to be sent, I need to setup an email server.

I'm not sure how to go about this as my domain is registered with 123 Reg. My email has been created using the domain i.e. domain@domainname.com which is redirected to Googlemail. All emails I use are from Googlemail (although I believe my ISP also gives me email usage but I don't use it).

I understand that I need to edit parts of the php.ini file but I'm not sure where and which settings to put down.

    Make sure that sendmail is installed on your server and configured. Have you considered installing WEBMIN or something else to help you configure server settings and common programs?
