Looking for a basic record browser/editor

Howdy! I'm new to php/mysql but not new to database development; I have been working in Clipper for nearly 25 years (career advancement? What's that?)

Anyhow, my wife thinks highly of her book and movie reviews and would like to share them with the world, so she wants me to install some facility for doing just that. I looked at some video library databases, but they were all about listing your collection, displaying cover art, and pulling relevant details from imdb.com.

I really, really don't want to write a whole app from scratch; all I need is a fairly simple interface where she can type in a movie/book title and fill a page with her profound insights. Then her devoted fans can do a title and/or keyword search and read the results.

Any generic front ends y'all can recommend that can do as much? I can probably figure out enough to add/remove a table or a column to an existing layout, but I have a real job and I can't really put the time into this that a whole new application would need. I don't know if it makes a difference, but our domain host has php 5.2.5 and mySQL "ver 14.12 distrib 5.0.37".

Thanks in advance for any tips to get me started, recommended reading, or general derision.

wordpress might be able to do the trick depending on what you want to set up, whether users or authors are going to be modding the reviews

Hi rulian, thanks for the advice. Sourceforge is where I found the other solutions I tried and couldn't use. I talked to the Mrs. about using Wordpress if nothing else comes along - I can set it up so only she posts comments, and other users can only read them. I'm holding off on that solution because there's no way (that I know of) to list your posts in alphabetical order, but perhaps there's a mod in the user community that would enable such an option. Meanwhile I'm working on a "Clipper to MySQL Dictionary" so if I really get jammed into a corner I can throw something together in a hurry.

Here's a REALLY simple app I threw together yesterday to track machines IPs / MAC addresses. it's simple, could use code review, etc... but it's really easy to edit to work with another table...

This app assumes an autoincrementing field called id as the primary key.

Edit the $table var with the name of your table
Edit $var array to have all your field names except for the one for id, which will be hidden from the user.
Set up a connect.inc file that connects to your db.
Go!

Oh yea, it's written for pgsql. If you want it to work on mysql, just change the pgsql commands to their equivalent mysql commands
