Hello All.
I noticed that the last time anyone had posted in this section was a few years ago so I am taking upon myself to breathe new life in this corner.
I have been working with Dreamweaver since v. 4 , went through all the versions aft and now on the CS3 version. it's amazing the differences and improvements that they had done throughout, but I still have a real problem with their integrated FTP reliability, so I use an independent program for that.
So... post your questions, and lets see if I (or others) will be able to help with your plight!

Have to say I used to use dreamweaver for all my sites, but since moving to PHP have just stopped using it. Maybe it's just the fact that I have also become a electrical engineer, but I just prefer to use something like PSPad and a seperate ftp client over dreamweaver. I have found that in the past using dreamweaver to create the pages (using wysiwyg) dreamweaver just makes a mess of the code. That said for people just starting in creating web pages and not wanting to get their hands dirty, dreamweaver is one of the best out there. Freaking expensive though!!!!

I don't use the WYSIWYG side of it. I understand that it can be a bit messy, and though it is stating that it makes the whole code in XHTML, it apparently overlooks a few tags. bgcolor as an example. I typically use the coding screen or the most, split screen for the odd view of my progress. Like I have said from the beginning, if you want to do ANY website creation/design you MUST learn thoroughly HTML at least. I find DWCS3 handy for creating CSS attributes, but I have just started getting into PHP, and haven't tried other coding apps.
Have you tried the CS3 version? it's really changed from earlier versions. I HATE the FTP client that DW uses. I use WS_FTP PRO, primitive but extremely reliable and effective for the type of internet connection that I have to contend with. (I am on Satellite internet since I move around a lot, especially in areas that have no other source of internet, and I am using a bad satellite right now and need to change over the Mex5 that hardly anyone uses so I will get better datatransferrate.) WS_FTP seems to recognize any lost packets whereas other FTP clients seem to hiccup on my connection.
I understand that a lot of people use DW and I am just here to offer any help for those who need it.

        Hi all,

In 1991 I started to use Dreamweaver 2.x and have continued to use all the versions up to and including CS3. The comment concerning the messy code is right, it does produce a lot more than most people thing is required. One thing to remember is that most of the messy code produced is when it comes to the JavaScript. But behind all that messy code is the desire to make sure it runs on all the major browsers.

Lets keep the Dreamweaver section alive.

          Howdy,

I use CS3 for my business and I code in PHP and AJAX and never had a problem.

I dont know what's what with the FTP client. I love it.

It works perfect for me, never have any problems.

I dont use design view so I have never seen the messy code, I do strict coding but it is nice to see design view to get an idea of what it will look like.

I just purchased Dreamweaver CS3 for my web development work.

Does anyone happen to know of a PHP debugger that is either an extension of DW CS3 or will at least work with it?

              20 days later

I also upgraded thru DWMX to DW8. DW does offer an HTML code cleaner that works fairly well. In the end, code view is my best debugger/code optimizer. Aside from HTML, is CS3 that much different or better for php and css? I also don't use the other apps in CS3 so need a good reason to justify the large cost to upgrade.

I have experienced some crashes for no apparent reason but haven't checked logs to see what the source has been. Has anyone else experienced crashes with DW8?
