Im trying to build a .php website with the index.php having links to a certain page with many different variables such as

http://www.sample.com/test.php?keyword=old
http://www.sample.com/test.php?keyword=new
http://www.sample.com/test.php?keyword=rusty

Will the search engine search test.php 3 times and show 3 different pages for each extension shown above? If not how should I do this?

I have different meta tags being shown for each variable being posted to test.php

look into mod_rewrite
It can make it so that your links can be: www.sample.com/keyword/old
which in the background, hidden to the user and spider, actually shows www.sample.com/test.php?keyword=old
Also, sitemaps are the best thing for spiders, though they will crawl without them, you just have more say in it with a sitemap.xml file.
