PHP blogging system development?

Hey, - not sure if this is the right section....

I am in the process of doing a summer research project to develop a php blogging system. Do any of you have any good suggestions for me to use to get started.

I am really new to PHP and any good online tutorials and/or books would be helpful, especially if they are directed toward blog development.

Any suggestions?

Before even developing any web application ( or even a blog ), you should have a basic understanding of PHP ( & MySQL )... check out this tutorial provided by W3Schools
