mail() + Verizon FIOS

I'm trying to send mail in a Win32 environment using mail()...

My ISP is Verizon FIOS and in my php.ini I have my SMTP set to:
outgoing.verizon.net

Despite this no mail is getting through

If it requires authentication how would i implement this easily?

i was able to find that using PEAR::MAIL you can accomplish this but for the life of me I cant get the thing installed

Ill post over in the install section and come back ifI have further troubles

However if theres alternatives to PEAR please post 🙂
