If anyone knows what i would search for to find out more about this please let me know.

I want to limit visitors to 3 page views, or 3 video views. then require them to sign up to view any more.

What would i look up to do this, im not to sure on the function name for somthing like this.

It is impossible to do this in a way that will work. But there are a few options, with drawbacks:

Use a session variable. The drawback is that it is enough for a user to close the browser and start it up again to get a new session.
Store the IP address of the user in a database and check it when someone tries to view a video. The drawback is that some people share IP addresses, for example companies. And others have dynamic IP addresses, making it easy to change IP.
Store a cookie on the computer that tries to view the video. Cookies are easy to delete, and some doesn't allow them at all.

Thanks for the reply, im not to worried about then coming back since it will be short clips about 10 seconds long, "small previews". maybe 5 per day.

I am still not sure what this function is called though, or if i would just use JS or php/mysql.
