[RESOLVED] Tearing my hair out over this regular expression...

OK. It needs to match some html but the html tags lie on different lines like this:

<br>
	Hello World
</td>

I would like it to match "Hello World", but hello world can be replaced by lots of other html tags.

Anyway so far I have this:

/<br>(.*)<\/td>/s

It matches the <br> but not the </td> on the other line. Why? I thought /s and the .* made it allow newline characters... Please help.

It looks like it will work, and this test shows as much:

$pattern = '/<br>(.*)<\/td>/s';
$subject = "<br>\n\tHello World\n</td>";
if (preg_match($pattern, $subject, $matches)) {
    print_r($matches);
}
?>

Thanks. It does work its just the page contained many more </td> tags than just that one so it was being greedy. I just changed it to this:

/<br>(.*?)<\/td>/s

and it worked.

Thanks for the quick response though. I had been looking to solve this for over a day and then I solve it just after I posted:p
