making a database post to a web page

I would like my excel spreadsheet to post information on to a web page, based off the informaton that is searched for.

Where do i start? I just needed to be point in the right direction. I'm using dreamweaver 8 and my site is hosted on a linux server.

Is the excel file a CSV (.csv) or an excel file (.xls)?

it's a .xls file.

If you save the spreadsheet as a CSV file, it is pretty easy to read it into a PHP script via the [man]fgetcsv[/man] function.

If running on a Windows server, you may be able to treat it as a database via the the [man]ODBC[/man] functions if you have the necessary ODBC driver on the server for Excel.
