Been browsing through a website that looked at first like a guide through programming languages’ history. Turned out to be something different to my annoyance; still found that some parts of it were worth the while. The website is called Code Chronicles, and is a fancy Microsoft suasion for developers to learn their framework. The programming languages history is rather superficial, as there’s no information about coding languages not related to ASP.Net.
There are parts of the site that make up for it, though. The support section is the best I think, with many tutorial vids for ASP.Net, for all levels of proficiency. I liked how Microsoft assumed that there would be people browsing the site with experience in working with other frameworks – there’s a podcast here about ASP.Net from a PHP developer’s perspective. I watched through some of the tutorials, and consider them rather good. The second part of the site that I liked was the download section with Express Editions of Visual Web Developer 2008 and SQL Server. And that’s about it – the rest is not too interesting, and I would recommend to cross-reference all information provided on the site =)
By the way, this is the first time I ever saw Silverlight – don’t see much difference between that and Flash. It was quite annoying in fact – the tutorials are a bit bugged, as they won’t shrink to the frame and have to be seen in fullscreen. I did like the right click menu one gets on the videos though. I remain sceptical
