when is rude too rude?

Heya All,

Just wanted your opinion what you think..

i have been active on the forum again after being absent for a while. And now again I am starting to get a little annoyed with people just asking us to write them full applications, almost. I was wondering what your opinion is..

In for instance this thread am I too rude in just referring people to google?

If so.. How to deal with people like that. There is another person currently active with asking questions, bumping the thread every time an answer takes more than 2 or 3 hours, and generally not reading the replies, nor answering questions. My fingers are just itching..

What to do.. Oh.. what to do..

Would it be rude if I ask you to build a web application for free, because I don’t want to pay anyone to do it, nor do I want to learn how to do it myself? It’s kind of like walking up to a total stranger and asking hem to change the oil in your car (for free of cores).

Personally, I've pretty much gotten to the point now where if a question does not interest me enough when I read it to want to provide an actual answer, I just move on to the next thread.

Presumably anyone who reaches this forum already knows how to use google, and if they have not yet done so, me telling them to probably won't magically cause them to change their ways. (If only it was so easy! 😉 )

So in other words, I simply suggest choosing the battles that seem worth fighting, and just running away from the rest. In the long run, it will save a lot of aggravation.

(And a word to the n00bs, this is another good reason to use well-worded thread titles and carefully constructed questions. Without doing so, you risk being ignored by some of the most experienced contributors here - those who have seen too many lazy questions and "Help me!" titles and are therefore the most likely to ignore your post.)

I think people often don't really think about searching Google. They don't try to solve the problem. Some less tech savvy people don't automatically resort to Google either.

Depending on the question I quite often point somebody to Google.

Quite often I do what NogDog says too. I guess it depends on my mood!

I have always done that, and I think that we always do that. After all, if you take the pain to reply, it implies that the thread must be of interest to you in some way.

Maybe I should say that what interests me has evolved, then? All I know is that compared to a year or two ago, I don't read nearly as many threads that have useless "Help Me" titles (or worse, "URGENT!!!!!"), and I don't bother to reply to as many that I could address but that are either obviously just looking for a hand-out or need a 500-word essay to begin to answer.
