retrieing quotes from 3rd party websites?

I'm interested in finding out how websites such as moneysupermarket and confused obtain live quote data from their providers.

Is it possible to perform this by a script visiting each provider website, completing their quote form and retrieving the quote amount?

Does anyone have any idea how this can be done?

I presume that is how they do it. Some sites have special interfaces built in, but you might need to register for them (Usually these ar descibed in their affiliate of partner programm).
