FireFox 3 RC1

Yikes, I was hoping this was going to be nice and fast. I'd also hoped the memory issues would be fixed.

I'm running windows XP and I seen spikes or memory usage reaching 900 - 1000 mb!!

It feels a touch faster at times (apart from when it spikes out the memory and the full browser freezes). However, I guess that's just due to less plug-ins being installed.

I hope its just me and the final release will fix these problems... has anybody else been using it?

I use FF2 on Vista and have no noticeable problems (2 Gigs RAM). The only add-ons I have installed and enabled are Flash Block, Web Developer, DOM Inspector, and Talkback. I think once in a blue moon it has locked up on me, but it's almost always been in a situation where I had several other applications running like IE7, PHPDesigner, The GIMP, and of course Apache/MySQL/PHP.

I've been using Firefox 3 beta 5 for about a month, and that one works very well. My package manager prompted me to "update" to Firefox 3 RC1 - because I installed 3b5 manually - and 3RC1 was ridiculously slow. Didn't have quite as bad a memory problem as 2.0.0.x had, but it was very CPU-intensive and just performed very poorly in general.

You might want to give 3 beta 5 a shot, Dougal.

Okay, looks like I will not update Firefox 3 from Beta5 to RC1.

Well I havent had any problems with FF3 since beta 3 on windows and RC1 has worked normally.. Memory usage is around 60-70 megs. I have 4 plugins installed: Firebug, web developer, ABP and Download statusbar.

On Ubuntu I've used Swiftfox since FFox beta 3 and it has worked great. Havent updated to RC1 thought..

Yeah, I've only tried RC1 on Ubuntu, I think. Pretty sure my Debian box is 3b5 still.

I ran FF3b5 for a bit, then upgraded to rc1 after b5 kept crashing on me (like if i navigated past about 3 pages). rc1 has crashed I think twice. Memory usage can be high at times... but nothing too unmanageable... although I have 4 gigs of memory... so I don't think I'll run out soon 🙂

What i really really want is TB3.0!! I'm using the nightly now and it's okay. Could use some enhancements, but still good.
