Payments are being made though a payment gateway system. There are some commercial solutions which include both shopping carts and gateway systems and there are free as well. One that I know is PayPal - if you have your own shopping cart they give you access to their APIs to process payments through PayPal (paypal ipn or PayPal Instant Notification). They also offer shopping carts but that's expensive.
Do you know of any? Free and commercial?
