default log location on unix?

Hi, I'm trying to track down the error logs on a server and wondering what the default location is? The name & path is commented out in the ini file and nothing's coming up in a find search. Are these under etc/ ?

If the "error_log" configuration setting is null, then it probably is going to the web-server log.
