Fill multiple textareas with choosing one value from an slect field

Hi together,
I am new here and new to PHP.
I would like to know if it is possible to fill 2 textareas by selecting one value from an Select filed which is filled with an sql querie. I have all necessary values in one table which I want to receive with one single sql querie (select * from table). Is it possible? Maybe with a combination of PHP and Javascript?

If all the fields are on the same page you will need to use JavaScript. JavaScript is a client-side scripting language (as opposed to PHP, which is a server-side scripting language). With JavaScript you can utilise functions like onclick, onchange etc.

Specifically, you could use AJAX. When the user makes the selection, AJAX would submit this selection to a PHP script that would then return the appropriate values for the two textareas.

that`s what I thought already, but I have no idea how to fill up the textareas beacuse I do not know any way to do sql querie4s with js. Do you you have an idea?

Nice idea with ajax but when I post my information to an php script I would loose alll other changes I did already in my form ?!?

Asynchronous JavaScript and XML. The JavaScript executes without reloading the HTML page. So you can send query data to another PHP file and return the result (sorry I slightly misunderstood your first post).

I have never been dealing with ajax, now it seems to be the time to learn something new, thanks for the tip I will try this on the weekend, I am sure to find some helpfull information in the web. I will let you know if it worked.

your Tip was realy good, everything seems to work but one thing which I have no idea how to do it.
In the guide there is an example of an Database Query by help of Ajax. I do understand everything but one. The where clause of the called script has as a value : "'" & request.querystring("q") & "'". My question is how do I do it in PHP because I realised the asp script in the example in php. Any idea

another question concerning this wonderful Ajax Thing.
I have two different javascriptfiles.
The original one and one I changed the name of the function and the name of the id
document.getElementById("vertragHint").innerHTML=xmlHttp.responseText;
and call both with onclick and onchange.

Everything works. The only Problem is that the id for the div Layer seems not to be refreshed so both get filled in the div which is specified in the secondly called javascript.
Understand that??? Hopefully

Problem is solved I just had to rename a function in my js because it was known already by the last js I used.
